Months. Fucking months she's needed me. She's ached for me, hurt for me, and I've let her down. I've made her sad. I've left her sneaking around in the dark and climbing through my window just to feel close to me. If ever I needed proof that I am, in fact, an asshole, it's staring me in the face. My princess needed me, and I couldn't get past my own shit to see it.

I was right about one thing. She deserves better than me. I don't deserve the right to call myself her daddy. Not yet. But I'm going to work like a fucking dog to earn it. My princess won't ever be sad over me again. Fuck that. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. All that matters—the only thing that matters—is what she thinks, what she needs.

And she needs me to get my head out of my ass and earn her.

I scoop her up into my arms, cradling her to my chest as I storm through the clubhouse, headed back toward my room. Cash and Hands will be back later today. I called them this morning. As expected, Cash didn't have a fucking clue about Devin's actual identity. He was shocked. I expected him to have a bitch fit about me claiming her—he has an entire MC and a family to think about—now that we know who she is, but he was shockingly chill about it.

As soon as he and Hands get here, we're going to see her uncle. I don't give a fuck who he is or how dangerous he is. Devin is mine now. She isn't going back to Houston with him. He's lost his fucking mind if he thinks it's safer for her there than it is here. I fully intend to ask him about the motherfuckers who put their hands on her. If he hasn't dealt with them already, the MC will.

We may not be outlaws, but we protect what's ours. And make no mistakes about it, Devin is ours. She's been ours since the first time I set foot in Petal Pushers. Cash knew it. Devin knew it. Seems I was the only motherfucker too stupid to accept fate. I was too worried about being too old for her, and I was hurting her the whole time.

The fact is, I am too old for her. She does deserve better. But I'll bear that cross gladly to spare her a moment of pain. Let anyone try to come between us. Let anyone try to take her from me. They'll unleash a hell they've never seen. She's MINE. The only opinion that matters is hers.

I carry her into my bedroom, kicking the door closed behind me. It slams with finality, leaving the last eight months of hesitation where they belong. In the past. Outside of this room. There is no reservation now, nothing holding me back or stopping me from claiming her. She's my little princess, and it's about time she knows just how obsessed her daddy really is.
